Blacksite: Reckoning
FPS ★ 9.1 / 10

Blacksite: Reckoning

Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X  |  Developer: Apex Forge Studios  |  Reviewed: April 2025

Blacksite: Reckoning is a masterclass in modern tactical FPS design. Set in a near-future dystopian cityscape, the game pits you against an overwhelming military force with nothing but your squad, your wits, and an arsenal of customisable weaponry. The campaign spans 14 hours of tightly paced missions, each introducing new mechanics that keep the experience fresh from start to finish.

The standout feature is the squad command system, which allows you to issue real-time orders to AI teammates with surprising precision. Enemy AI is equally impressive — flanking, retreating, and calling for reinforcements in ways that feel genuinely intelligent. Multiplayer adds a competitive layer with ranked modes that have already attracted a growing Australian player base.

Graphically, the game is stunning. Destructible environments, volumetric lighting, and particle effects combine to create some of the most visually arresting combat scenarios we have seen this generation. Performance on PC at 1440p is flawless, and the console versions hold a solid 60fps throughout.

Eldryn: Realms Awakened
RPG ★ 9.4 / 10

Eldryn: Realms Awakened

Platform: PC, PS5  |  Developer: Mythforge Interactive  |  Reviewed: March 2025

Eldryn: Realms Awakened is the open-world RPG that fans of the genre have been waiting for. Spanning a continent of breathtaking diversity — from ancient elven forests to volcanic mountain ranges — the world feels genuinely alive. Over 200 hand-crafted quests, each with branching dialogue and meaningful consequences, ensure that no two playthroughs are identical.

The combat system strikes a satisfying balance between accessibility and depth. Beginners can rely on auto-combat assists, while veterans will find a rich skill tree that rewards experimentation. The magic system in particular stands out, allowing players to combine elemental spells in creative ways to solve environmental puzzles and defeat bosses.

Narrative quality is exceptional. The main storyline tackles themes of colonialism and cultural identity with a maturity rarely seen in the genre. Voice acting across all major characters is outstanding, and the orchestral score is among the best of the year. Eldryn is not just a great game — it is an experience that stays with you long after the credits roll.

NFS Velocity
Racing ★ 8.7 / 10

NFS Velocity

Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X  |  Developer: Speedhunters Studios  |  Reviewed: February 2025

NFS Velocity brings the street racing genre roaring back to life with a neon-soaked aesthetic and some of the most satisfying handling physics in recent memory. The game features 80 licensed vehicles, 24 tracks set across six fictional cities, and a career mode that will keep you busy for 30-plus hours.

The drift mechanics deserve special mention — they are intuitive enough for newcomers but deep enough to reward mastery. Online multiplayer supports up to 16 players and includes a robust ranked ladder that Australian players have already embraced enthusiastically. Weekly community events keep the content fresh.

Minor criticisms include an AI difficulty curve that spikes unevenly in the mid-game and a customisation menu that can feel overwhelming at first. These are small complaints in an otherwise excellent package. NFS Velocity is the best racing game released this year and a must-play for genre fans.
